HISTORY and MANDATE

HISTORY and MANDATE

Matt Baram and Naomi Snieckus met at the legendary Second City Theatre in Toronto and it was love at first laugh. Together, they wrote and performed five shows before co-founding The National Theatre of the World with MADtv alumnus Ronald Pederson and firecracker Kayla Lorette.

For over a decade, the troupe toured internationally, collecting multiple Canadian Comedy Awards and creating iconic shows such as:

Impromptu Splendor, the “live improvised play”

The Carnegie Hall Show, a variety show boasting “the greatest improvised scenes of all time”

The 53 Hour Soap-a-Thon, an epic, non-stop improvised soap opera

The Script Tease Project, an improvised play inspired by just two pages from an established playwright

Dubbed “...the city's most laughable couple” by The Toronto Star, Matt and Naomi now perform as Baram & Snieckus, a comedy duo with chemistry honed onstage and off, as real-life partners.

Their most recent theatrical creation, Big Stuff, is a deeply funny and sharply observed exploration of relationships, regrets, and what we choose to hold onto. The production has been called “hilarious and heartbreakingly human” (The Globe and Mail) and “a fast-paced, funny and profound look at relationships and grief” (Next Magazine). Big Stuff is currently touring across Canada with plans to take it worldwide.

Baram & Snieckus showcases the couple’s singular blend of sketch comedy, improvisation, audience interaction, and personal storytelling. Whether dissecting the male-female dynamic, spinning scenes from audience suggestions, or podcasting in delightful chaos, they bring a satirical lens and authentic voice to modern love.

In the tradition of George and Gracie, Nichols and May, “expert man” Matt Baram and “lifelong woman” Naomi Snieckus mine the absurdity of relationships with wit, warmth, and wicked timing.

When they're not cracking each other up onstage or in your ears, they’re at their cottage chopping wood, cooking healthy meals, and sneaking in chicken fingers for second dinner.
